We were asked to refresh and amplify the Fossil brand presence with a new prototype and shopping experience. Designed for a company with a long history of industrial mid-century American style, Fossil’s new concept store offers patrons an authentic, casually luxurious shop at an inviting residential scale.

Fossil set out the dual goals of improving overall organization, as well as reinforcing the brand’s language through new details, domestic scale and refined lighting and proprietary fixtures. Throughout the development of the concept we turned to mid-century modern residential design for inspiration. The result is a fluid sequence of spaces that are differentiated by lighting, materials, and fixture arrangements.
The shopping sequence is organized around a long central table composed of steel, glass, and white lacquered wood. This table defines the men’s and women’s areas and supports flexible displays for both sides.
The “watch room” is situated beyond a white powder-coated steel wall and is visible through panels of fritted and frosted glass. We worked closely with the Fossil team to compose a new material palette from the ground up, with special attention given to the watch display strategy. The result is an atmosphere of understated luxury and warm natural materials, featuring exposed cedar planks, fabric covered drum light fixtures, and a ceiling of corrugated metal decking. The flagship store also received a new storefront of cold-rolled steel with maple infill panels. These are materials that project a warm industrial face to the street and convey the sense that the storefront is in fact a fixture itself. A place to spend some time.
