We were asked to create a supersized building with intimate details that describe the A&F brand: relevance, lifestyle and authenticity.  It invites the outdoors in. It is inspiring, exciting, and filled with energy.

The layout of the distribution center continues the notion of ‘the village.’  the entrance is marked by a folded wood “beacon.”  It’s a comfortable gathering spot with a fireplace and places to sit.  The tower is inspired by farm structures like corn cribs and threshing machines and establish that inform you that this is not your typical industrial building.

The piazza-like lobby is flanked by ‘buildings’ housing different functions such as security, administration, and dining.  Above the entry and dining area, the dining room ‘building’ adjoining the lobby is large and airy with views in four directions; past the outdoor terrace overlooking a lake, back toward the ‘piazza’ and main entry, toward the distribution racking area framed by rows of lockers, and into the servery ‘building.’   this dynamic panorama is further enhanced by exposed steel structure, ‘flying ductwork’, globe pendant lights, and a subtly colorful material and furniture palette.  The servery adjacent to the dining area is an enclosed wood ‘box’ lit from above through ‘swiss cheese holes.  The dining hall fulfills the function of a community center providing a variety of services and spaces where people eat, talk, and hang out.   It is a good place to be. It is a good place to work.
